Jade here. Not sure, but it reminds me of anxiety sensitivity. Thatβs where people are afraid of sensations linked to anxiety. They may misread them as dangerous. In some cases that might mean perceiving or describing them inaccurately.

How is this for a conversation starter?
βHowβs your phenomenological experience of Being-in-the-world disclosing itself through Becoming over there?β π€
βHowβs anxiety revealing the structure of your existence over there today?β

βHowβs the weather now over thereβ. π
Thatβs about the epitome of small talk!
What would the opposite of that be? Something to initiate a conversation that is as engaging and inviting of real thought as possible?
Do you have interesting conversation starters?

Iβm not sure there is a word for not being able to describe sensations; generally we would say βchallenges with interoceptionβ.
- Alexithymia plays out at the level of emotions.
- Interoception plays out at the level of bodily sensations.

Alexithymia & autism guide | Embrace Autism
Many autistic people (40β65% or more) have alexithymia, a condition characterized by the inability to identify and describe emotions in the self, and several features commonly attributed to autism.
So many autistic people (of all support levels) experience alexithymia, which "is a condition where you have challenges identifying and describing emotions in the self. Essentially, alexithymia is a difference in emotional processing." @embraceautism.bsky.social:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But maybe when youβre autistic, you have a need to record all those words, categorize them, and cross-reference them to identify meaningful patterns. π

In high school, two guys were talking, when this gifted autistic guy with a 164 IQ strode up, stood perpendicular to their center, announced something vaguely interesting about a game heβd played the night before, and walked off. I watched the whole thing.
It was hilarious, and heβs my hero. π

I agree that vaccines donβt cause autism. But I think itβs a bit of a strawman to suggest people who fear vaccines cause autism are afraid of getting children with interesting quirks, less conformity, and great passions about their subjects of interest.

True, neurodiversity is great, but there are two points of nuance here, which is that the people who think vaccines caused their child to become autistic have witnessed their child completely regress.
So itβs not the βcool type of autismβ; itβs the type that undermines the childβs autonomy.
