The Northern Harrier has a disk-like face to help it pinpoint prey with sound much like an owl. I've always loved watching them float over a field, looking weightless as a kite balancing on a string.

Unlike our dark eyed American Ravens and Crows, the Australian ones have white eyes! The Australian Raven has a hilarious drawn out call: ah-ah-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

The Bearded Vulture eats bones, what an appropriate bird for October! Also, as I was doing practice sketches I realized this fabulous scavenger looks a lot like a dragon.

The Andean Mountain Cat is a small cat from the high Andes on the West coast of South America. Though in slightly better shape than the bird, this cat is among the most endangered wild cats in the world with less than 2200 adults in the wild.

The Araripe Manakin is a recently (90s) discovered bird with a tiny breeding range in Brazil. With a decreasing population of less around 800 birds, this species is critically endangered.

I drew it as part of my colorful birds art challenge last year.

Last October I fell in love with the critically endangered Araripe Manakin from Brazil. I have been wanting to combine it with an endangered South American cat and landed on the Andean Mountain Cat.

Beautiful work. The only one I've ever seen was captive, practicing with a handler before a falconry show. Hopefully you get to see one someday.
