This is a niche-ass joke of a meme given how very old it is, but I know those of you who still recognize this infamous image will get a kick out of it.

I still think of that song when I drive through boring modern planned housing developments. I will never live in a little box made out of ticky-tacky.

I mostly remember how season 2 started off with all those episodes about the Tailies and how few of those characters and how little of what happened in those episodes ultimately mattered to the series arc.

Escapade is perhaps the worst episode of the show, which somehow ironically also makes it MORE entertaining than the next few "worst episodes" which aren't quite bad enough to be as enjoyable as Escapade.

From Season 3 onward the filler episodes are mostly gone because they knew how much time they had left to get through the whole series arc they had planned out.

Now of course the writer's strike threw a big wrench in that, but the plan still largely worked.

And you can see it happen in the show. They didn't have an end date going into Season 2, and as a result there are a TON of not so great "filler" episodes in it because the writers had no clue how much time they had to tell the full story, and didn't want to share too much too soon.

This scenario is why I think LOST is one of the most important shows in TV history. I think it was (one of?) the first big shows where, after it became a huge hit, the producers managed to negotiate a future end-date, which allowed them to avoid this problem.

It may be a bigger problem that most mobile publishers have zero desire to making something of high quality because it would cost more to make and generate less revenue than the latest mid-tier gacha-game will.

The mobile side of the industry has for awhile now been mostly a race to the bottom.

And that's not to say these games should have something to say. Soduku, Wordle and the NYT Crossword don't have anything to say because that's not their goal. They are little brain-teasers that light up different parts of your brain. But there's also nothing new to say about games like these.

I'm sure it doesn't help that many of the most popular (and exploitative!) mobile games tend to be pretty vapid, and given that vapid works inherently don't have much to stay they also tend to bring little to the table that warrants critical insight or discussion.

They probably took it down because it was intended to be sent to a specific population, but then one of them posted a link to it on r/Nintendo which means it has probably been inundated with not-asked-for responses from people who fall outside the survey's intended audience.

He's actually been making music again since 2017, just not for video games. He goes by "Chip Tanaka" and the stuff he's making is still very VGM-inspired.

For anybody curious as to what he was doing while away for 20 years, just look up "Chip Tanaka" on your music streaming app of choice. He's put out some real bangers.

I never wanted it to replace Horizons, but as a space camp kid I was super excited for Mission Space. What a cool and thrilling idea it was.

Sadly I was ultimately disappointed by it in the long run, but at least my prior "training" did a good job of helping ensure that I never vomited on it.

It was odd enough to begin with that the Switch prices never dropped over the last 7 years. Historically, when a new console comes the manufacturer tends to DROP the price on the old model so it becomes a budget option.

I figured given the tariffs they'd just keep Switch 1 prices stable. But NOPE.

So are they not sharing what the new prices will be until August 3? Because all the prices on their website are still the current prices.

P.S. if it was an emergency the parent could just call the school and have the kid pulled from class to take the call. Worked fine that way back in the day.

At least here in NY they wrote the law to specifically ban smartphones. Kids can still have all day access to dumb phones, so parents can’t use the “but what if it’s an emergency!!!!?” argument against the school.

We had a lot of lock-in with Spotify. For a long time I was grandfathered into a cheap student account that they never canceled which included free Hulu. Then Amanda and I had a shared account and she didn't want to deal with the hassle switching.

The AI murderdrone stuff is what finally did it.

Plus our apple family includes my wife's mother, so now she will get access to all this stuff too. For $6 more per month I'm getting quite a lot more value.

We're moving over to AppleOne which includes Apple Music. I was paying $17/mo for a 2-user Spotify account. I am also paying $3/mo for a 200GB iCloud family account.

AppleOne gets me that same 200GB, Apple Music, AppleTV+ and Apple Arcade for $26/mo for a family. Ultimately I'm paying $6/mo more.

Also the sound quality is shit. Their compression is bad and particularly in the last few months I've been get at least one quick dropout per day where the audio just goes silent for 0.5-1 sec mid-song, sometimes multiple times per song.

It's done. I canceled my family's Spotify account. This company sucks so much ass.
