Pioneer is/was so awesome. The 2023 pro tour that Reid Duke won with Izzet Indomitable Creativity was my introduction to the format and I had a ton of fun playing it. My favorite constructed deck ever (5c enigmatic fires) had a home there and is unplayable everywhere else which makes me very sad.

i don't feel like magic set surveys usually have this question and i don't appreciate the implication that content creators, who do so so much for the game, are possibly to blame for a bad set's poor performance. 👎

2025 has been awful for a lot of reasons (world events and such) but on a personal level it’s been a pretty good year for me so far. Channel will be hitting 5k soon, plenty of cool shows, 8 books down so far, really good year for new music, fiancé and I travelled together a lot & still more planned

controversial opinion: i like magic: the gathering even tho the choices being made right now aren't my favorites. it's still one of the best games ever made and designed and i've made so many incredible friends because of it. it's the capitalism that's bad, not the game :3

I’m also not a UB hater by any means, I’ve actively praised some of the sets (FF, LotR, Evil Dead) I just feel like they’re also kind of a novelty and the quantity of UB products released is going to cause UB to cannibalize itself.

The over saturation of the UB market does seem very real. Like you said when LOTR was a one off thing it was hype, now that every other set is something else it definitely feels much less special and the novelty of seeing other IPs on a card is wearing thin (imo)

I guess a good way to sum up my last post would be “is there a feeling of indifference from more folks about doubling back to an IP for a second go? If so is that indicative of a poor outlook for the future of UB and is this a bubble that may pop as hype dies/popular IPs to adapt start to run out?”

To specify “good” in this context means “popular, well known IPs that will actually move product”

But yeah it 100% should NOT be standard legal but UB in standard is a whole other convo 😂

When do we run out of “good” new IPs to adapt and if doubling back on old ones fails then what does WotC do next?

I don’t hate a second LOTR set by any means but the “magic” of it is definitely a little gone. Do Spider-Man fans feel similarly about the second Spider-Man set coming up? If so what does that say for the future of UB? Do we get to a point where the hype and novelty dies?

I gotta be honest, I LOVED the first lotr set. Was hyped from the moment it was announced and loved opening the set and playing with the cards.

I feel kind of indifferent about a second set. It feels like the novelty of seeing Gandalf on a magic card is gone and I’ve had my fill of LOTR magic
