While I know she had a long list of legendary collaborators, she was also deeply respected among pedal steel guitarists. It’s not an overstatement to say that she did revolutionary things on the instrument. She was kind and clearly steadfast in her values. RIP to a hero of mine.

Took a lesson with Susan Alcorn on Sunday and saw her play a show last Thursday at Rhizome. Very shocked to hear of her passing. In the brief time I got to share in her presence, she always emphasized the importance of playing from the heart, and I get the sense that she approached life similarly
