Hello from fabulous, fabulously hot Las Vegas. A year ago, I was fine flying Avelo Airlines out of here. But after that company stooped to operating inhumane deportation flights for ICE--and then sent its lawyers after @wandrme.paxex.aero for a campaign calling that out--they are on my no-fly list.

I think the only refits they have announced (for now) are the 77Ws? (They have the A320 family refits, but that's different.) I believe they expect 2-3 more 789Ps for the year, and 2-3 more XLRs (assuming they get seats). There will probably be enough capacity to add a few more destinations.

Also, expanded capacity to Tokyo from DFW and LAX. DFW goes back to 77W (it flew for a while pre-COVID) and 772s for both LAX-HND flights (also few pre-COVID for a while, a big boost in capacity).

These seem so few, given the new 78Ps and possible A321XLRs. I suspect there will be a few more announced once they have seats certified for the XLRs. Maybe a new rotation from JFK to MAN. Surprised none from ORD. I expect more flights announced soon. Also, most of these are 788s.

It's not just "this person is willing to spend $x on this flight", the person may pick another legacy airline that charges non-AI pricing or a ultra low cost airline. Alternatively, as discretionary spending budgets shrink, people may choose to not fly altogether.

I think they'll ultimately apply to join the JV and likely get accepted, similar to the way AY is a member of the JV (out of the way, in an area where BA/IB won't launch flights). They might restrict Alaska/AA from cooperating out of LAX as a minor carve out. Otherwise, I can't see a valid objection

I agree from a timing perspective. I think they should aim to join the TPAC JV before the end of the year and the TATL JV by next summer. (Not sure how fast the applications will move.) I can also see them partnering more closely with Qantas for the Australia LAX/SFO/SEA (if they relaunch) flights.

The combative approach from blue state Dem governors and the passive/tepid approach from Senate/House Dems I think shows the divide in the party. There's more appetite for putting up a fight and Senate Dems (especially) aren't meeting the moment. Hopefully, this will lead to a change in tactics

My thoughts exactly. I don't think there's a strong argument against it, since AA has all but abandoned Seattle LH flying, and they wouldn't otherwise launch flights from AA gateways

Painted white but earmarked for eventual use by Singapore Airlines, the new fifth test aircraft, registered N2007L, is being tasked with high intensity radiated field (HIRF) testing to evaluate how systems respond to electromagnetic interference. No fewer than 20 production 777-9s sit between this test aircraft and WH004, Boeing’s fourth dedicated test aircraft. WH004 first flew in September 2020 and was placed into extended storage when Boeing returned the aircraft to flying status in May to conduct cabin and environmental control systems testing. The Air Current on July 28 reported Boeing had received clearance from the FAA the previous week to begin the fourth phase of its certification campaign that will focus on systems demonstrations.
