Neutrality and objectivity are not the same thing and are, in fact, often contradictory goals. The objective truth is often not neutral in its political implications, and it would be a useless exercise if it was.

Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

the message is clear that Republicans are in charge permanently, can kill any D legislation with the filibuster, never need to govern at all, and when pressed, they can threaten the lives of millions any time they want and they will be given whatever it is they demand in exchange for their mercy.

Tech guys six months ago: haha yes we’re cutting all this WASTEFUL spending by eliminating medical research and USAID

Tech guys now: yes I think taxpayers will be excited to bailout my non consensual pornography machine

It later turned out Watson apparently had a non-negligible fraction of African blood, which was pretty funny considering.

1. That brief period was probably sometime when it was still only in China. 2. Air filters everywhere might be good, but "AIR FILTERS GOOD!!1!" is a thin read on which to support a full at-scale project. 3. Wearing masks is pointless at the population level, at least for COVID.

With all due respect, there's nothing we can do about COVID still being here.

I helped make a film, out this week, called β€œRovina’s Choice,” about the deaths this man without conscience or accountability has caused β€” already 600,000, β…” of them children.

One person I argued with claimed that increasing Congressional salaries would mean that fewer working people would try to run for Congress. Like, wat?

the one thing that I will say in defense of Eric Adams is that it's sort of absurd how poorly elected officials are treated in terms of creature comforts and salary and it does create lots of incentives for corruption. it's fine, actually for the public to spring for first class and stuff like that.

always important to consider the signaling effect of elections. one likely outcome of tuesday is to encourage the strongest candidates to throw their hats in the ring.

What's happening in TX-18 is more obscene than not seating Grijalva during pro formas. Turner died in March. Abbott delayed the special election until yesterday, and now it goes to a runoff early *next year.*

Congress can and should require special elections to be held within 90 days of a vacancy.

I do think yesterday’s results reinforced the dynamic that while much of the American leadership class is chickenshit, most of the electorate is not

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that.

But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal.

You can’t negotiate with people like that.

Mamdani: "My message to ICE agents & to everyone across this city is that everyone will be held to the same standard of the law. If you violate it, you must be held accountable. There is sadly a sense growing that certain people are allowed to violate that law, whether they be POTUS or ICE agents."

I think one way to understand what is happening in modern politics is that social media has taken groupthink dynamics that previously applied to dozens or hundreds of people, and scaled them up to millions

The president of the United States thinks asylum-seekers come from mental asylums.

He says it in almost every interview where the topic of migration comes up.

How is this not 25th Amendment territory? How is he not an embarrassment to this entire country?

I think fundamentally the problem with post liberal thinkers is that they seem to assume that vanquishing liberalism results in their enemies being converted or defeated and not becoming radicalized into enemies who no longer extend the mercies they once did.

My view is that you can't just turn off your persuasion efforts every two years (especially since campaign season in the US is basically never-ending) and still have an effective persuasion operation. Having a core set of beliefs that you do not rhetorically compromise on is a key part of persuasion
