i'm mainly liking how natural the quests feel in it, i don't feel like i'm doing artificial video game missions, it just feels like i'm helping people out/exploring. and not getting big "YOU GAINED EXP" popups all the time helps with the immersion as well

the other issue with crt monitor filters is that you kind of need a 4k display for those to look right and i uh. yeah i don't have a 4k monitor lol

i'm saying all this because i'm playing ultima 7 and jfc it's nigh impossible to read anything in it without using bilinear filtering

crt displays naturally blur the image. yes they change how old pixel art looks in a lot of other ways but as far as text legibility goes, the blurring is the most important thing. modern displays are literally too perfect, so they ruin how old games look when using nearest neighbor filtering

unpopular opinion: when playing old (mainly 16 bit era) games it's actually really nice to use bilinear filtering because it makes text a thousand times more legible. if you can use one of those crt monitor filters that's probably even better but i can't be bothered to learn how to use those
