I'm holding up the UK version of Cinder House in front of my bookshelves; it has an orange Cinderella silhouette on a dark teal background with a shiny gold swirly border and title text
This little book won me my first Aurealis Award last night, for Best Fantasy Novella! π₯³

If you're in a position to vote on this, do the South Pacific a solid and vote for Brisbane.
The last time Worldcon was scheduled down here it was 2020 in Wellington and it didn't happen in person. Will have been 18 years by 2028 since we got an accessible in-person con. Put the World in Worldcon.
So, still working on MORTAL FOLLIES, but ADHD brain does what it does, and Iβve now also read CINDER HOUSE by @freyamarske.bsky.social. What a delightful, fresh retelling of Cinderella. It beautifully incorporates the foundations of the story we love, while also reimagining the context. I loved it.

(Now, who do I know who's going to Genrecon....?)
As Many Souls as Stars by Natasha Siegel (f/f historical fantasy), Troth by E.H. Lupton (third in a m/m urban fantasy series set in 1970s Wisconsin), Lessons in Magic & Disaster by Charlie Jane Anders (a witch teaches her grieving mum magic; also very queer)

for me it was the fact that the author is one of the main driving forces behind the global movement to kill my trans friends and erase their existence
hope that helps
I read such a predominance of queer romance that it's always wild being reminded that for a huge portion of the genre readership, some tropes usually fall along gendered lines.
