I did not know about the 2500 cap. Makes sense from an ops standpoint, but not great for writers. I wonder how quick it will fill up.

Hopefully, when presented with a similar choice later, we can see how their actions change, thereby revealing their character growth.

Character IS plot. You don’t really know someone until you see the decisions they make under pressure. Plot gives us an opportunity see who your character is when their choices really matter. Do they save the child, or save themselves?

Change is hard. I don’t want to radically transform myself unless something massive in my life forces me to. The same should be true about your characters. If not, it will feel phony.

You CANNOT have a character arc without a PLOT. People are reluctant to change. It’s only through FORCING your characters through the most challenging situations in their lives that they will reassess their worldview. The plot is the ENGINE that forces people down the road of personal growth.

I don’t understand this press release. Are they saying nichols is no longer open to the public? And you can only submit if you’re a part of one of those institutions?

As a kid, I dreamt of MAKING MOVIES. I didn’t dream of sitting in GENERALS and DEVELOPMENT calls.

While I’m sad to see the conventions of old Hollywood changing (esp re: union power), I don’t feel it personally as a digital-first producer. I see the walls between creators and viewers coming down.
