Words ARE spells. If you’ve ever had a beautiful person look you in the eyes in a crowded bar and say, “wanna get out of here?”, you’d know that words are much more that words.

18.04.2025 15:43 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Character IS plot. You don’t really know someone until you see the decisions they make under pressure. Plot gives us an opportunity see who your character is when their choices really matter. Do they save the child, or save themselves?
18.04.2025 15:42 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Change is hard. I don’t want to radically transform myself unless something massive in my life forces me to. The same should be true about your characters. If not, it will feel phony.
18.04.2025 15:38 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0You CANNOT have a character arc without a PLOT. People are reluctant to change. It’s only through FORCING your characters through the most challenging situations in their lives that they will reassess their worldview. The plot is the ENGINE that forces people down the road of personal growth.

A true crime podcaster investigates the caught-on-tape murder of rival podcasters; and what she finds flips everything she knows about “Justice”. TRUE CRIME.
Happy to trade notes. Will be submitting to Nichols this year.

I don’t understand this press release. Are they saying nichols is no longer open to the public? And you can only submit if you’re a part of one of those institutions?

While I’m sad to see the conventions of old Hollywood changing (esp re: union power), I don’t feel it personally as a digital-first producer. I see the walls between creators and viewers coming down.
