At first read without diving into the supplemental data, looks like the suggestion to doctors that vbac is sometimes (moretimes) possible, uterine rupture risk has been overly feared & patients have a say in the matter 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 it’s a good start. Btw, sunnybrook has the lowest surgery rate @ 18% in 2020

I take most offence to the term “Male Midwife”

It’s like when people say the world was better when we had less divorce. Better for who? Divorced women used to have no rights. Likely to live in poverty. Women couldn’t get a credit card without a husband or father co-sign. Low birth rate is in part due to body autonomy. #choicematters #birthdoula

Ya absolutely. My grandmothers had far more children that I do and they had far far less choice in the matter.

Out of hospital birth is unsafe when without access to hospitals for effective transfer in an emergency, this access is barred in places even when a hospital is close. Home birth in itself does not lead to more death.

I don’t know why Canadians would choose to want to lose their universal healthcare, 18 months paid leave after birth, and relative safety from gun violence? I’m not the most nationalist of people, but being american sounds fucking unappealing folks. #notmypresident

The answer in the rich world will sadly be more artificial hormones, Pre and post labour, more inducing preventatively. In the poor world, lack of enough meds and people will keep dying. If only we could balance the need with the supply and work like one world.

I accidentally sobered up permanently as a result of my doula on call life. Alcohol became intolerable in my body, so not all bad lol. But ya, divorce rate is high amongst professions with on-call time. I have to leave the country anytime I want to be all the way off call!

Also no one died for this meat.

If I were to start thinking about replicating a baby, I would for sure have started with trying to replicate the placenta. Once that is done, the rest takes care of itself.

Sadly I see many providers during labour informing patients what they want to do, and then asking: "ok?" and that's "informed consent". Recently when asked about the risks to starting pitocin, Doc answered, "Don't worry, we are monitoring". That is withholding information!!
