A beautiful fan-made poster for the film.

A beautiful fan-made poster for the film.

Rewatched β€œSurviving The Game” tonight for the first time in more than 20 years. It’s aged extremely well. You can really see how worse action cinema has gotten by going back and watching something like this by a true journeyman director. β€œPretty good” for 1994 feels like β€œminor classic” in 2026.

I’m drunk, but it bears repeating that Rutger Hauer did so much more that was stellar than Roy Batty.

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Ladyhawke (1985) It’s been a minute since I’ve seen this, but after some distance I’ve been able to appreciate it more than I did when I was younger. The script is tight. The casting is perfect. The acting is quality ...

My latest #RutgerReview over the 1985 medieval fantasy Ladyhawke is up on #Letterboxd! πŸŽ₯ 🎬

Rutger seemed to terrify everyone on the production and was pretty much left alone. I think he enjoyed the power he had over people. About three weeks in, he said: β€œI think we should have lunch together.” I went to his trailer and we sat in dead silence as he chain-smoked filterless Camel cigarettes. After an eternity, I mustered up some courage and in my squeaky teenage voice said: β€œRutger, what’s your secret to playing bad guys?” He took a long drag of his cigarette, leaned into my face, slowly exhaled and whispered: β€œI don’t play bad guys.” I just gathered up my things, thanked him for lunch and backed out of the trailer.

I constantly think about this quote from C Thomas Howell about filming The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer

I mentioned it yesterday, now it’s time for #SamuraiSunday.

#NowWatching Blind Fury (1989)

Not the most authentic, but it is a direct remake of the 17th Zatoichi film, & it kicks an unbelievable amount of ass.

I was 11 years old and swinging a stick around pretending it was a katana.

Dabney Coleman was underrated as an actor. He could do comedy really well but also serious roles.

Seeing Courtney and Rutger both appearing in Corbin Nash has me hoping that Courtney got to re-meet Rutger on a professional level without my bungling forgetfulness ruining the moment.

Sorry about that, Courtney! Water under the bridge and all that, right? 😭

At that moment, my mind completely blanked on his name! I motioned him over and introduced Rutger to him, but his name wouldn't pop in my head to introduce Courtney to Rutger. Courtney looked at me like "what the fuck, dude?" and then introduced himself. I felt like an absolute turd.

Courtney perked up and said he's always wanted to meet Rutger, but felt awkward just moseying up there to talk to him and asked if I would introduce them. I agreed and went back to Rutger's booth. After a while, Rutger got back to signing things and meeting fans when Courtney showed up at the table.

The last one we did was in Burbank and during a break I walked around seeing who was attending. I was delighted to meet John Franklin and Courtney Gains from "Children of the Corn." We chatted a bit and I told them I was there with Rutger for his charity.
