I was at the game the last time we got knocked out of the World Cup. I'm so SO happy that a new generation of fans will get to go to one and enjoy the amazing atmosphere. (And then the crushing defeat but that doesn't really matter, you still have a party πŸ˜‚)

This is great, hard to disagree with. But I do wonder if we need both and they are probably different people - the people who are great soundbite communicators for TV ripping in to people in a debate and ALSO the rabble rousing firebrand person who can set a room on fire. Deploy people appropriately

Why I stopped going on TV TV debates don’t change minds; organising does.

"If you’re going to get politically organised, it’s more likely to be because your neighbour asked you to come along to a local protest than because you saw a bunch of allegedly intelligent people debating policy on TV."

Yep, same. I'm in a very safe Labor seat but would love an independent

Exactly this! I ended up with my vote going to Labor but they were FAR from my first choice. The lesser of two evils is still two evils!

it’s even more demoralizing when the history you’re repeating is history you were around for the first time

Elon Musk’s fascist turn isn’t puzzling at all.

It’s all about labour 🧡

"The Albanese government" or to give it its full title "The Albanese government has bowed to pressure from <insert corporation here>"

Melbourne teens behind award-winning Covid tracking site pick up another accolade – their Atars After winning plaudits for their website CovidbaseAU, Jack Graffeo, Wesley Mu and Darcy Hersbach are among the state’s top students in this year’s VCEs

I worked with these guys during Covid on vaccine data when I did my AusVax initiative. 2 things:

1. So proud of them πŸ‘

2. They started this when they were ~14 years old and social media was a big part of their success. Next year, that would be illegal. Insane!

Strike ends at Woolies distribution centres as union accepts new offer The United Workers Union says Woolworths employees across four warehouses have won better rights and wages after being on strike for 17 days.

Anyway, congratulations to the members and organisers at @unitedworkers.org.au who once again demonstrated there is power in a union.

A scan of a double-page ad from the August 1968 issue of "Seventeen" magazine. The ad is titled "out of this world knits… inspired by 2001: a space odyssey". The ad is for a range of clothing by US clothing company JP's, as a promotional tie-in for the movie β€œ2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick. The ad shows four female models wearing 1960s shift dresses in red and white, paired with white tights and colored shoes. Some of the models are wearing hats. In the background is a large photo of the Moon. The models’ limbs are bent in unusual angles, as if they are floating in space above the Moon. Down the side of the ad is a list of American retail stores that stock the JP's clothing range.

To celebrate having a decent place on the Internet to post things again, I'm belatedly sharing a bunch of research scans from typesetinthefuture.com/book πŸ‘
