02.10.2025 20:39 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

The daily CO2 number from Mauna Loa exceeded 430 ppm yesterday. This is the first reading above 430 ever recorded.
CO2 levels have not been this high since the Pliocene epoch, 3 to 5 million years ago.

The image is a screenshot of an MSNBC news broadcast covering a House of Representatives vote. The main portion of the screen shows a live scene from the House chamber with a vote tally displayed, indicating the results for House Concurrent Resolution 14 (H CON RES 14). The vote breakdown is: Republicans: 216 Yea, 1 Nay, 3 Not Voting Democrats: 212 Nay Independents: 0 votes Total: 216 Yea, 213 Nay, 4 Not Voting The bottom of the screen has a red "Breaking News" banner stating, "HOUSE GOP VOTES ON BUDGET DEAL THAT THREATENS MEDICAID." On the right side of the screen, there are two smaller video panels: 1. The top panel features MSNBC host Chris Hayes speaking, with the show's logo "ALL IN" visible in the background. 2. The bottom panel shows a congressman in a suit speaking in a government building. The broadcast time is displayed as 8:14 PM ET at the top left and 7:14 PM CT at the bottom right. The setting is Capitol Hill.
The House budget reconciliation framework that cuts $1 trillion from Medicaid has just passed.
They are literally taking from the sick and poor to give the rich tax cuts.
That's how it's done in our house. It's that not how everyone else plays?

08.02.2025 23:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can't emphasize enough how disastrous the NIH cuts will be. If implemented as proposed, it could decimate universities and college towns. And it could mean every one of us in the US and around the world will experience shorter and less healthy lives.
08.02.2025 03:12 β π 447 π 99 π¬ 8 π 3The bigger picture: A new era of on-campus immigration enforcement is no longer an abstraction. But with about 400,000 undocumented students enrolled in U.S. colleges, much remains unclear. A single arrest reported in a parking lot is not the same thing as frequent sweeps through the quad, no matter how much the loudest voices might want to equate the two.
From the Chronice of Higher Ed's daily newsletter email. The first ICE arrest on a college campus happened at Spokane Community College yesterday. The Chronicle, however, is here to tell us that in "the bigger picture," it's no big deal, even if "the loudest voices" say it is.
