We've been getting a lot of submissions by folks excited by juries resisting the federal government, and monitor much bemoaning by MAGA folks that this constitutes jury nullification, but the vast majority of such cases are being thrown out by juries over weak evidence or lies.

Becoming a broken record here, but: JURY NULLIFICATION IS GOOD.

Judges have long desired to have complete control over voir dire, cutting out prosecutors & defense attorneys entirely, and they have had variable success at stocking juries to make them subservient rubberstamps.

This move by the judge in Prairieland is a noteworthy sign of wider anti-jury pushes.

The ability of judges to call a mistrial after failing to select a jury sufficiently deferential to the government is an attack on the entire point of our jury system.

It is also, sadly, all too common.

It is in no sense "jury nullification" for juries to uphold established law on free speech, especially when such an obligation to disobey illegal orders is taught by our military, but it is noteworthy how juries remain a barrier to authoritarianism when everyone else surrenders.
