I remember when my dad bought the 1965 Suburban we had throughout our childhood - it had an aftermarket AC (Mark IV).
Used units are still for sale for restorations; all steel and built like a tank.

The trick here is keeping it clean... w/ water injection the minerals that dissolve under high heat and pressure tend to be very corrosive, which is hard on heat exchangers, pumps, etc, and presents pollution issues. The technology to isolate the heat exchange fluid from the rock is quite new.

Apparently impurities in MoS2 can cause corrosion of yellow metals.... synthetic greases are quite good these days and avoid the risk. However, MoS2 is hard to beat for slow speed shock loads like pins and bushings on heavy equipment.

There should not be any MoS2 in brake fluid :)

Our first house had knob and tube with cloth wrapped wiring from circa 1929, and fuses in the panel. A newer panel w/ breakers & Romex had been added ahead of it. I never had to deal with the knob & tube, but was very careful in the basement where much of the old wiring had shed the fabric...

Three phase is of course virtually industrial only absent a few oddities in Texas afaik. Those of us who need three phase for heavy duty tools or air compressors in our home shops use either rotary power converters or variable frequency drives derated for single phase input.
