White flowers on a yucca with raspberry accents.
This morning, I was stunned to see my yucca gloriosa blooming. It took 12 years! Love that raspberry color on the petals.

It's amazing how something so beautifully complex as a rose can be so common. Life truly is about stopping to smell the roses, or at least pausing to enjoy their beauty. Grateful for plants today.

This is great news! We have trees that had ivy during previous owners. It defoliated branches, which broke and fell. It's still a big problem. People don't know its dangers & nurseries still sell it. Now that's about to change. Yay!

This is an encouraging story but shows the harsh realities of trying to make change for good. The Chico Mendes project needs money to keep going. Please consider donating. #gardening #environment

Thanks for this post. Father's Day was always lonely for me growing up because I lost my dad at a very young age.
14.06.2025 15:45 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So can putting scented plants on your patio deter mosquitos? Well, yes and no. I dove in and did some research for this latest article. Here's a gifted link:

We went to this in Belgravia many years ago. When the ceanothus were in bloom in Eccleston Square. It was spectacular. As a gardener, I was delighted that I could tour it. Thanks for keeping them lovely!

Good Friday morning, gardeners! I noticed my golden chain tree in bloom and it brought me such joy. First time it's bloomed since the transplant years ago.

Does anyone else grow Madame Lemoine lilac? It's so strongly fragrant, when I put them in a vase, they flood the house with a heavenly sweet smell.

I see. Yeah, probably not. Also, not sure if you literally meant topsoil, but topsoil would definitely be heavier than potting soil. Good luck, looking forward to seeing what you grow!
29.04.2025 23:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes, try that. If you take a handful of soil, squeeze it, and it stays in that shape without crumbling, then the soil is probably too heavy/wet. Also, any container will heat up faster than plants in the ground so they may need more water in summer. And because they drain more, they need more food.
29.04.2025 22:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Do those buckets have drainage holes? If so, you can plant quite a few things. ๐

Happy Easter! Here's a hellebore I'd like to give away. Great for shade, blooms in early spring and the flowers last a long time. It only needs a little trimming in late winter. Let me know if you'd like it. I'm in the Seattle area. Cheers.
