What I love about science social media is how often I find a paper that I know will be involved in teaching. Can’t wait to read this.

Purdue student detained by ICE and taken to troubled Louisiana holding facility Yeonsoo Go, 20, was detained after her immigration hearing in Manhattan and taken away by ICE agents.

Go, a college student, has a dependent visa (her mother, an Episcopal minister, is here on a religious worker visa), which doesn't expire until Dec. But when she tried to renew it early, ICE nabbed her and sent her halfway across the US to a detention center.

Byssal threads are marvels of bioengineering. They come out of the foot as liquid and immediately start solidifying, like silly string, tipped with a cement-like adhesive pad. Mussels constantly reapply threads as they're buffeted by waves. Spiderman could easily also have been Musselman! (142)

Sabiha Kasimati (1912-1951) was a professor of biology and ichthyologist, one of the earliest known women scientists in Albania.
She was arrested by the communist regime in 1951, and a few days later was executed without trial along with 21 other intellectuals.

We relocated this beautiful sky puppy from my kitchen linen drawer to the picnic table outside with some water. After letting me know, vocally, that she did not appreciate us interrupting her nap, she flew off.

Remember when I told you that all our caution, our obsession with optics, our demand that the case be open & shut/iron clad, was INSANE when a) the other side would never be held to such standards, and b) the waste of time was more dangerous than a failed case?

Yeah, I was 100% right about that.

The Actual Conspiracy Theory Surrounding Trump and Epstein It’s not what you think it is.

Instead of waiting for (redacted or doctored) Epstein files, media should publish court docs alleging that Trump raped Katie Johnson at Epstein's home when she was 13.

Why ignore what alleged victims have to say while giving adjudicated or alleged perps unlimited air time?

On a stone completely encrusted with small barnacles are a couple of hermit crabs. And there's another barnacle on the shell of the hermit in front; an excellent site, as the hermit carries it to a variety of food sources. And the hermit is a messy eater, adding choice morsels to the water swirling around the barnacle.
This hermit is a Hairy, with brown and white legs, very clean, green and white antennae, yellow and white eyestalks and antennules. And dark eyes, one looking our way, the other keeping watch on the far side. (So helpful to have such mobile eyes!)
The shell is round, with only three whorls, the first rough, scored, algae-encrusted, dark grey to brown. The second and third whorls, though, are smoother, and bluish.
The second hermit, in the background, blurry, is another Hairy, this one wearing a charcoal-grey mudflat snail shell.
And behind all that, the greens of eelgrass and green algae. (Eelgrass is a flowering plant, not an alga.)
