My son saw me scroll past a sumo wrestler, and now sumo is the only sport we have watched together.

Very short matches, very simple rules.

On Daniel Tiger he saw a baseball stadium and he said "that's like where they do sumo!"

And he's right. Sumo has been a spectacle way longer than baseball.

How Chuck Schumer Planned the Shutdown Capitulation to Trump In brief. And then in excruciating detail

What actually happened:

The rules matter! It's worth working very hard to change them (expect a fight from entrenched interests), but that's no reason not to act strategically within the rules as they exist now!

This is far beyond any measure of β€œsomebody should’ve said something” - it has become a media and society-wide groupthink nightmare where ignorance and fantasy have melded into a β€œplan for the future” that was neither possible nor profitable, all because everybody craves to believe the status quo

In Santa Clara, California, where the world’s biggest supplier of artificial-intelligence chips is based, Digital Realty Trust Inc. applied in 2019 to build a data center. Roughly six years later, the development remains an empty shell awaiting full energization. Stack Infrastructure, which was acquired earlier this year by Blue Owl Capital Inc., has a nearby 48-megawatt project that’s also vacant, while the city-owned utility, Silicon Valley Power, struggles to upgrade its capacity.

The ones that are sat unpowered in Santa Clara are *48MW projects*. How, exactly, are we going to get the 200, 500 or 1.4GW ones up and running? I don't think this is a regulatory issue!

The problem isn't that they caved for a promised vote; the problem is that the vote will be a meaningless gesture impressing no one but Senate Democrats.

It will fail. ACA beneficiaries will suffer considerably as a result and there will be no consequences of any kind for Republicans.

Not a political consultant but I’m not sure β€œstanding up to trump doesn’t work” is the best midterm message, even if if accurately represents senate dems position. Not much point in putting you in power then bsky.app/profile/atru...

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.

No, no, no. Senate Democrats secured the concepts of a plan for a handshake for a promise to hold a vote they will lose.

Capitulating Democratic senators waited until after the election, indicating they know capitulation was a bad politics that bothers their voters and reduces their chances of retaking power.

I like Mamdani and wish him the best of luck, but an open ranked choice primary with condorcet tabulation is how you would go about finding someone who might win by more. (But then again they might run up a higher percentage of a lower absolute total...)

People post a lot on the internet in part because life is, at least in part, competitive. People compete for status and reputation. So both relative and absolute position are important.

Also, I have no data, but the precariousness of people's positions (debt & risk) is surely on their minds as well
