I just (regretfully) read the latest "boys in crisis" piece. There is too much to unpack.

I read it while my two-year-old was watching Mr. Rogers, who also offers an "appealingly simple" answer about what it might mean to be a man.

Every night I go to bed thinking about all the babies and children and parents suffering and every morning I wake up thinking of it and the magnitude is just staggering. I don't even understand how humans have this capacity.

I'm not sure knowledge of how it works/what it is would inoculate against the effect, though. It seems to be more about the experience and pre-existing vulnerabilities (for the examples I've seen).
