Medical Budgets in an Aging Canada New report shows why protecting universal access now requires generationally fair revenue reform.

Thanks for sharing Sandra! We also think there is no time to delay! We need to reform how medical care is funded in Canada. What's at stake is the sustainability of Canadian medical care. If we don't want a two-tier system the time to act is now! action.gensqueeze.ca/medical_budg...

HUGE thanks to @climateinstitute.bsky.social for their leadership! Climate change is the largest debt to be passed from one generation to the next in our history. Younger and future generations are poised to inherit the messes we’ve made, but failed to clean up. action.gensqueeze.ca/leave_a_clea...

"Are we willing to do hard things?"
What's your answer British Columbia? Younger a future generations are counting on us to do more, not less, to protect their health and the economy on which they depend.

Yes, SUPER COOL. Our friends at @intergenerational.bsky.social in the UK are also having fun! Not to mention @thinkforward.bsky.social in Australia who are also enjoying watching the exploding budgets and deficits from DECADES worth of governments who failed to plan for an aging population!!!!

Agree!! Updating CPP in the 1990s was an excellent move! We wrote about it here: www.gensqueeze.ca/eby_ford_tru...

Many countries across the world are envious of the success of our CPP. But why didn't we do the same for OAS?

📣📣New Report Release!! Medical Budgets in an Aging Canada.

Medical care is the single largest line item in every provincial budget. Yet governments failed to plan for the predictable fiscal pressures created by an aging baby boom generation! action.gensqueeze.ca/medical_budg... #cdnpoli

It is difficult to put into words how disappointed and worried we are about this. The risks and costs of extreme weather are already putting lives and livelihoods in jeopardy. Climate change is the largest debt to be passed from one generation to the next in our history.

Canadians want to fix Old Age Security: Stephanie urges us to think beyond ourselves.
In a show of intergenerational solidarity, a growing number of Canadian seniors are telling Generation Squeeze that they are willing to give up their Old Age Security (OAS) benefit if it means diverting the funds to those in need: Seniors living in poverty and younger Canadians suffering through a crisis of affordability. There are 10 parts to our series: Canadians want to fix Old Age Security. In this tenth episode Stephanie, a retired physician and mother of three in Victoria admits she didn’t have to struggle “the way younger generation are struggling now” and suggests we should all “think beyond ourselves” when we consider how government budgets should prioritize the needs of its citizens. Stephanie thinks the Generation Squeeze plan to fix OAS is a win-win! OAS is 75 years out of date. Its 1950s design is dragging down today’s budget, and letting down seniors and young people alike. 75%... Canadians want to fix Old Age Security: Stephanie urges us to think beyond ourselves.

Financially secure retirees are speaking out. Meet Stephanie, a retired physician and mother of 3 who believes Canada's Old Age Security system needs reform. She doesn't want or need her payments and thinks reform is badly needed. Stephanie urges us all to "think beyond ourselves".

As the largest line item in the federal budget it seems inevitable that reform will happen sooner rather than later. Giving $18,000/year to retired couples with $180,000 of household income doesn't seem sustainable when other priorities are pressing. Look at housing www.gensqueeze.ca/who_is_asked...

Where is the money going? The short answer is that the fiscal pressures created by our aging population are what's driving Ontario’s red ink. For decades governments failed to plan for the healthy retirements of seniors. www.gensqueeze.ca/analysis_of_...

Canada's budget 2025: It’s hard to call $1.6 billion a “generational investment” when the same budget plans to boost spending on retirees by $28 billion in 2029 alone. That gap speaks volumes about federal priorities! #cdnpoli www.gensqueeze.ca/did_budget_2...
