It's quite a strange feeling writing effectively a 'fuck you' letter to someone that I may never send.

7) I am not, nor will I ever be, an advocate of unfettered free speech or expression. However I am damn sure against curtailing expression of (legal) adult content and themes, and groups like Collective Shout are causing more harm than good, even if they had good intentions (X to doubt).

What I hope will be a pragmatic take on the Itch.io (and Steam) situation, with the caveat that I'm taking what they've said as honest and in good faith.

To use the UK context, the top rate of tax is 45%. That means if you earn a million quid a year, you still have over half a million net left.

You shouldn't be stealing the stuff in the first place. If the store (creator) chooses to donate the items (creative works) to you, that's their prerogative.

Yeah, the GRCs are worthless if they're not something which can actually be used. Sounds about normal. My wife is trans and we're both British citizens (though living in Australia), so naturally still very invested in what's going on over there. I wish it wasn't so bleak :(

I wasn't nitpicking, I think I've just misinterpreted your post. I've seen a lot of people not understanding the differences between how UK and US Supreme Court rulings work, so wanted to clarify that it's not a beyond-hope situation for the law to be changed. Apologies for the confusion!

2010 Equality Act*

I don't support the outcome of the ruling, but important to note that this is only based on the current interpretation of the 2010 Gender Equality Act, as currently written. It's neither permanent nor immutable, it would just need to be passed through parliament to change. That's the next battle.

My work colleague and his partner got it too. Very glad @jfrcoates.bsky.social was smart enough to prompt us to get vaccinated a couple of weeks ago.

Exciting times are afoot! I've been busy since the launch, and now you get to see the fruits of my labour: a bugfix'd build for Void Dreaming on Itch has been released.

With disclosure that @faorameridian.bsky.social is my friend, I can definitely recommend trying Void Dreaming. I'm not super into VNs but I am a big sci-fi fan.
The characters are compelling and have their own voices, and there's a lot of replayability with how it's been structured. Do check it out!

I miss when April Fools used to be fun little gotchas we could laugh about.

These days, the news is such a bombardment of bewilderment that I just automatically think "yeah, that tracks" to even the most outlandish stories.

Satire is on life support, at the least.

Nothing makes me boycott a company faster than hearing the exact same ad for a product or service 3 times over the course of a 30 minute podcast. So bloody annoying.
