ok after very small sampling i prefer historical fiction that uses modern vernacular… the wolf den and glorious exploits utilize modern vernacular to mimic how ancient romans/greeks would speak to each other vs. quo vadis (tr. jeremiah curtin) uses shakespearean english for some reason
