I was hopeful. Jasmine did well in a number of small rural counties, amassing 75%+ of votes in deep red counties like Panola, Gregg, Marian and others. This shows black voters turned out to vote for her. Will they turn out in Nov for Talarico? If not, we could get a Paxton win. 🤢

I know it’s early as Texas polls closed just 20 minutes ago, but so far Jasmine Crockett has a large lead in several rural counties with including the 4 where my family voted. I am hopeful that means she isn’t facing the racism I feared. #JasmineCrockett #Texas

I should point out it was decades ago and I was driving by myself because my Air Force husband was deployed and I waned to give birth in Dallas. Didn’t recognize the early signs and by the time I knew it was real I was in the “miles and miles of empty road” that is rural TX.

Volunteer at a shelter - my husband has a cat allergy and volunteering to help socialize kittens at the shelter helped a grandson survive 7 years with us without a cat in the house. He has an apartment & two cats now that he’s on his own.

Absolutely. In Texas, it may be a 3 hour drive to the closest staffed delivery room - and most private hospitals and clinics will avoid taking uninsured or Medicaid enrolled women if they can. Imagine a 3 hour drive in labor. Been there, done that: son arrived 14 minutes later.

I think the number of women without access to maternity care is grossly underestimated. Over half of TX counties have no OB/GYN doctors or hospitals with staffed delivery rooms, and practitioners are fleeing the state weekly. It’s happening in every Red State with draconian abortion bans.

Agreed. It’s also a threat to my physical safety. I wouldn’t dare put a Democratic Party sign in my yard for fear of the heavily armed MAGA cultists in my rural area. TX does not register voters by party. This is truly scary. I may never cast a primary vote again.

I have one son who opted for a GED and trade school. He out earns every college graduate in the family by a very large margin.
