These changes are backed by billions in investment and the return of 36,000 military homes back into public ownership.

This is about giving our heroes and their families the safe, comfortable homes they deserve.

🔧 Faster repairs. Urgent repairs will be completed within set timelines, with an easy-to-use online portal to report and track them.

🏡 Higher move-in standards. Homes ready on time, clean and functional when you arrive. No more walking into a property that’s not fit to live in.

📞 Named housing officer. One clear point of contact for any housing issues, so no more chasing different departments for answers.

💼 Run a business from home. Streamlined rules and support so spouses and partners can work or run small businesses without extra barriers.

🎨 Freedom to decorate. More say over how your home looks, from wall colours to creative touches, so it feels like your space.

🐾 Keep pets without red tape. Families can now have up to two dogs, cats or smaller pets without lengthy approval process, recognising the comfort pets bring when loved ones are away on deployment.

The Government has brought more military homes back into public ownership and introduced the new Consumer Charter. This will make it easier for Armed Forces families to own pets, decorate properties and run businesses from their homes.

It includes the following commitments:

I’m grateful to all the witnesses and experts, especially the care leavers, that took the time to give us evidence over the course of this enquiry.

We have made a comprehensive list of recommendations to Government to deal with this challenge and ensure that all children get the best possible start in life.

More children are being placed further away from their local areas due to a shortage of placements, and rising costs have hit local authorities hard.

There has been a 20% increase in the number of looked after children over the last 10 years. The outcomes for far too many care-experienced young people are very poor, despite the incredible dedication of professionals working in the sector.

Children’s Social Care Report

Just before recess, the Education Select Committee published our Children’s Social Care report. This is an enquiry that has been running since 2023 and covers an extremely important subject.

Huge thanks to the organisers and stall holders for such useful chats on everything from cancer screenings to school uniform exchanges.
