I never said that they weren't clearly marked; it would be incredibly misleading if they weren't. It seems like a lazy and wasteful practice, however

I am always down to discuss, and I have absolutely no issue with holding my hands up when I am incorrect, but I explicitly stated that this thread is my own personal opinions based on what I have read from official sources as opposed to something that should be being treated as gospel

At no point have I said that the key cartridges don't explicitly state that they are just that: a key. It seems redundant to purchase a cartridge that has no game data stored on it as opposed to going fully digital, which would be way better for the environment

I'm still doing my research on the topic, but they are definitely adding a lot of hoops to jump through

For digital downloads. I believe this is the first time that a physical cartridge has not had any game data saved onto it. Although at least with more people moving to digital over physical, less plastics are being produced

I think the only way they would backpedal is if they faced legal action (allegedly there is a clause in the user agreement that prevents anyone from being able to take them to court after signing the agreement) or sales massively dropped

So penalising people for using mods isn't a smart business move. MODERATING modifications and clamping down on cheating would be a way better approach, and would probably increase the amount of people drawn to the console 😭

HOWEVER!! For single player or otherwise non-competitice games (stardew, sims4) they are a wonderful thing and can actually increase the number of players/improve retention because of the customisation that they provide that just isn't available in a vanilla save file

ALSO, on the topic of bricking consoles for using mods: I have a love-hate relationship with game mods. If they are being used to cheat, or otherwise gain an unfair advantage in an online space (eg. red dead redemption) then they absolutely aren't okay because they can in extreme cases break games
