Trump signed H.J. Res. 142, attempting to overturn DCβs tax law.
DC Council Chairman Mendelson says Congress missed its statutory deadline. The law is already in effect. DC Vote stands with the Council.
This trampling on our rights is only possible because DC lacks statehood.

Thank you to every House and Senate Democrat who stood with DC this February. On Feb. 4, House Democrats voted against the disapproval resolution and on Feb. 12, Senate Democrats did the same. DC residents deserve to govern themselves. #LetDCVote #DCStatehood

Today we mourn the loss of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a civil rights icon who served as DC's shadow senator from 1991 to 1997. He recognized statehood as a fundamental civil rights issue and brought national legitimacy to the fight for DC representation.
His legacy will endure.

Every right we have exists because people refused to stay quiet.
This week, the Senate decides whether D.C. gets respect, or more interference.
π Call your Senators 202-224-3121. Tell them to reject the disapproval resolution.
Democracy grows when we fight for it.

DC residents? No vote. No say.

Thank you, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.
A true warrior on the Hill who spent decades fighting for a city denied its voice.
You carried DCβs fight with courage, grit, and unwavering love for this city.

Myth: DC citizens enjoy the same rights as other Americans.
Although Washingtonians pay federal income taxes, fight in Americaβs wars and serve on its juries, they have no voting representation in Congress. Also, Congress must approve the local budget and every local law.
