chapter cover for my comic. title of chapter: viking discovery. it features three younger vampires in the front, and behind them there's this ancient menacing silhouette of another vampire with glowing red eyes. very mysterious. behind the silhouette again, is runic text. it spells out the name of the elder vampire, and a simple description of him.

perhaps i should post this cover on its own too!

i spent like eight hours on this total so hey

glowy eyes! elaboration: four-panel grid of my original vampire characters, showing only the part of the face that has the eyes. the color setting is dark, allowing the eyes to really glow like they are supposed to. they all have different eye colors. morten has icy white eyes, bat's eyes are golden yellow, einarr has the classic red eyes of most vampires you know, while rune's eyes are a strong pink.

my actual comics are in black and white because coloring only adds more to the workload, and i quite enjoy working in ballpoint pen and simply doing texture and hatching instead. (especially the hair haha)

meanwhile my covers take a lot of hours and rendering!!
i can't do that for every panel...

my approach is more similar to manga in a way. unintentionally but still.

colored covers, gotta establish what the characters look like yknow - and then no colors on the inside. because that's just more efficient.

yeah like. imagine expecting the art to be consistently Super Good and exactly like the covers throughout hundreds of pages.

like no!!! that's simply unrealistic!!! professional comics may split this work between several people, like it'll have inkers and colorists and all that. and it's PAID WORK.

even if it's the same artist doing both the cover and insides, isn't it fairly normal for the covers to be much more rendered than the actual comics?
that's the way i do it.

hell, maybe i will redo parts of the intro anyway sometime. especially the square pages. they're quite old.

there are more, and much better executed dramatic moments in my comic onwards, but they're also a little spoilery, so for now you get this.

but of course i also mentioned clip studio paint, which!! i do use!! sometimes. haha

i'm still not very comfortable in it yet, but i needed something on my pc again that has more features than sai (ibis has spoiled me but its pc port suuuucks), so i've been trying it this year. just testing. yes

2019. basically just testing the program. wooo

2021. definitely more comfortable!! playing with textures and stuff! this is morten's bat-form by the way

and then... ibis paint. 2019.
i got a new phone. it had a stylus. needing an art program, i decided to give ibis paint another go, and this time... it actually stuck.

2025, i still use it. one thousand opened canvases later. six years. aaaaa

2017. ibis paint was still somewhat limited in its features, but it didn't stop me from attempting to color these doodles i had done in ballpoint pen earlier. i also didn't really post this anywhere at the time.

2017 - morten and bat, colored in ibis paint! it's their oldest designs.

no i lied, i still used sai A LOT, all the way into 2019.
that's when my main program rly started to shift.

see, i was an early adopter of ibis paint, testing it out in 2017, but it didn't really stick back then, as my phone didn't have a stylus and i was fingerpainting. that's when i did these.

2015 redraw of the dancing penguin from years earlier.

random page of a fully colored comic i made for school in 2016. this is also when i realized that coloring my comics is a pain in the ass actually. it takes way too long!! my vampire comics are in black n white for a reason!!

grovyle and celebi from pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of time/darkness/sky, specifically. because PMD is the best. 2016 was such a major pokemon year for me.

2017: my penguin, drawn at the end of club penguin's original lifespan.

well well what's next on the list? ah. paint tool sai.

i feel like i used it for a while, probably because i used it A Lot. it does appear that my main usage period was from about 2015-2017, before ibis paint showed up and gradually started taking over.
still, i may use this sometimes!

they are basically turning it into an MMO, and while i do like MMOs in general, it's still a whole different game genre 😩

not sure how far one is able to get with just that, but i have a friend whose voice somehow passed pretty well even before taking testosterone. granted, there might have been some external factors to help it, but i guess it's something

The fact that they could have just gone ahead with the release, get the money, blamed everything on early access and have us wait for fixes…but they decided to do this because they want to meet minimum standards even during early access. This is what sets this team apart 💙

well i have a reason but it's not a good one.
