As an author & reviewer in this space, I’ve longed for a publication that spelled out standards for how to study stress generation. But any one researcher’s opinion is susceptible to idiosyncratic biases. So I contacted some of the best SG researchers in the field to form a panel.

Life stress is a funky variable to model as a DV.
It can be construed as formative.
It’s hard to assess (correctly).
It’s infinitely heterogeneous.

I don't love having phones omnipresent in schools! I don't mind having a few more rules to prevent educational distractions. But let's not pretend this overreaching law will help mental health! I wish there was more investment in evidence-based policies rather than pseudoscientific moral panics.

I can think of so many ways that this will cause problems, and since it's a law, the teachers and administrators have their hands tied-- it's totally inflexible.

Because of the non-scientific NY state "bell-to-bell" internet-abled device school ban, my kids can't even wear an Apple Watch or FitBit to school in the fall, and can't even use a device when it's educationally indicated or when they are off-campus during school hours.
