Apropos of nothing (read: everything), here's a thread of resources for cooking at home considering various constraints (budget, time, the numbing heat-death of society, etc.)

We record remotely, with Anney & I on a video chat. Today my video went out towards the end of recording but we kept going, and at one point after I finished a short rant Anney stopped and laughed and said, 'Wow, without video, this is like listening to a podcast.'

i have been avoiding scheduling an episode of @savorpod.bsky.social about al pastor because its story is pretty similar to shawarma, and my brain says we covered shawarma recently

our shawarma episode came out in 2019

The Fluffy Gnocchi Episode - Savor These small dumplings, though perhaps most famously made with flour and potato, can take on near infinite forms. Anney and Lauren dig into the pillowy science and knotty history of gnocchi.

Wherefore Art Thou, Gnocchi-o? Fair Verona Has Another Enduring Love Story Though the potato dumplings are found all over Italy, it's only in Verona that the dish inspired a pre-Lent holiday, complete with a parade, costumes and an elected Santa-esque figure, PapΓ  del Gnoco.

Here's more on PapΓ  del Gnoco: www.npr.org/sections/the...

A black-and-white photo of a man in costume, wearing a boldly patterned suit, a tall decorated hat, and a long wavy white wig & beard. He holds a large prop scepter in the shape of a fork with a gnocco dumpling speared on its tines. He appears very silly and very regal. We're coming up on Verona's Gnocchi Friday, which is reigned over by an elected PapΓ  del Gnoco. His scepter is a giant gnocco speared through with a golden fork

Immigrants are an integral and amazing part of American society -- not only because they broaden our foodways, though we certainly appreciate that bit. We thought that went without saying, but here we are saying it.

Today's episode is a classic, mostly because I (hi this is Lauren) didn't get my notes together for the new ep we have in the works.* But it's a fab classic on Isabella Beeton -- yes, THAT Beeton, as in 'Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management'

*it'll be about one of Anney's favorite cartoons

It feels Real Weird to self-promote -- well, probably anything right now. Especially stuff like a fluffy lil food science & culture podcast. But we love making it, and hope it brings y'all some joy, too. So let us not go gentle into that good night. Let's rage, by which I mean talk about some food.
