Extinction Burst Explains MAGA Voters’ Racist Anger This fantastic two-minute video, from a guy named Rich, neatly explains why the anger and frustration of Trump’s supporter

I've long said that all the shitty MAGA behavior, the wilding out in public is an extinction burst. Their ugliness and hate aren't working to win people over, so they ratchet up. This is esp true of Trump, who has 0 coping skills. They know they're doomed.

In an effort to suppress minority representation, Greg Abbott refuses to set a special election for Texas 18th district which is 44 percent Hispanic and 33 percent black. These people could go unrepresented for two years.

America is in the middle of a battle over the meaning of words like β€˜diversity’ Aristotle coined the term β€œenthymeme” to refer to arguments, words and ideas that are broadly accepted among the people of a nation. So what happens when enthymemes start to disappear?

Just found a link to this excellent 2018 article. Looks like we’re losing ground since then.

The fight against toxic Anti-Wokeness is fraught, subtle, uncertain, and hazardous. Yet it is also virtuous, hopeful, redemptive, and existentially vital not only to millions of Americans, but also to the moral health of America itself.

Narcissistic personality disorder - Symptoms and causes

Lewis R. Gordon (@lewgord.bsky.social) was absolutely right: The symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder listed by the Mayo Clinic are disturbingly similar to those of antiblack racism. I'd go even further to say this describes anti-wokeism in general.

Yeah do the best you can. My Vanishing point clogged again this morning so I celebrated too soon. I think at this point I have to send it to Nibs.com for a proper cleaning/servicing. S'what I get for not treating precious things as they deserve!

Custom Namiki Falcon Resin Fountain Pen

Richard Binder (the guy who modded my pen) closed up shop years ago. John Mottishaw at Nibs.com makes a high-flex Spencerian mod of the Pilot Custom 912 that I've wanted for years youtu.be/pRebkWHsHC0?... ... But haven't yet sprung the bucks for....

No XF is ok (my favorite actually). I still think what clogged my Vanishing Point was misuse (I let ink try in the darned thing) rather than a manufacturing issue...but I can't say for certain. And mine isn't factory issue...I had it customized to an even finer point.

I absolutely love the Vanishing Point. Years ago I got a custom grind from Richard Binder to get a super fine point to compensate for the fact that I usually write on the porous printer paper we always get at work. Worked before years before this clog. Never occurred to me it might be the nib

Crazy Idea for today: Wanna feel better about yourself? Take just a few minutes each day to improve your handwriting.

Your written words are a reflection of your self. If you prove to yourself you can fix your ugly handwriting, then….

Goulet Pens does sell a cleaning solution but I’ve never used it. They are an excellent store so it might be a last resort if hot water and patience don’t work.

My pleasure. Once you get the feel of fountain pens, there’s no going back!

20.03.2025 23:58 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But the right answer, of course, is to never let your pens get clogged. Don't fill them with ink and set them down for long periods of time to dry with ink in them. lf I know I'm not going to use the pen for a while I empty the ink back into the bottle and flush with water.

20.03.2025 23:18 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I had to risk hotter water than I'd ever used before, filling the cartridge/converter, letting it soak, emptying it, then repeating. Then I would write when filled with the hot water to work out any dried bits. It takes a while for the color from dried ink to dissolve.

20.03.2025 23:18 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

First rule: Never use the words "solvent" and "fountain pen" in the same sentence ever again! So no solvents, ever! All I've ever needed has been warm/hot water and patience. Let the nib soak, and flush in and out using the converter, then repeat. Vanishing Point was stubborn.

Yes that can be a problem - depends on the pen. I find though that there are huge cognitive benefits to using fountain pens…and the modern affordable ones from Pilot and Lamy are very easy to maintain.

Hey Doomscrollers. I have a radical, old-school coping strategy for these turbulent times: Cursive Handwriting! Studies show that cursive handwriting enhances brain function, memory/retention, and is soothingly therapeutic.

I'm thinking of coming up with a system. Anyone interested?

Sometimes you need to focus on the small victories…like successfully fixing the hopeless clogs in your favorite fountain pen. Because good words are essential to any successful defense against injustice.

'Segregated facilities' are no longer explicitly banned in federal contracts The Trump administration cut a clause from federal contracting rules that had been on the books since the 1960s: Companies are no longer explicitly prohibited from having segregated facilities.

The Trump administration has just removed a federal ban on contractors from having segregated restaurants, waiting rooms, and drinking fountains.

This is a result of Trump’s executive order to combat DEI.

Calling attention to the subtle, coercive impacts of institutional intolerance and dehumanization is increasingly an act of heroism, selflessness and true patriotism.
