It was built in 1565 by John Carswell, a reforming churchman and the first Protestant Bishop of the Isles. The castle was designed to reflect the power and status of the Earl of Argyll, Carswell's patron. It was later captured and partly destroyed during Argyll's rebellion against James VII in 1685.

The Prince Albert Cairn is a monument located on the Balmoral Estate. Built in 1862, it was commissioned by Queen Victoria as a heartfelt tribute to her beloved husband, Prince Albert, following his death.

The castle served as a luxurious home for the Earls of Morton, particularly James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, who was briefly Regent of Scotland. It remained in use until the late 17th century when a fire caused significant damage. By the 18th century, it had largely fallen into ruin.

It was built by the de Mortimer family before passing to the Douglas family in the 14th century. The castle was expanded over the centuries, with notable additions in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, transforming it from a medieval fortress into a Renaissance style residence.

Built in the 13th century by the MacDougall clan, who were Lords of Lorn. It played a key role in Scotland’s history, including conflicts with Robert the Bruce. The castle later passed to the Campbells, who controlled it for centuries.
