The poem is like a snowglobe, with the horror of the "real world" beyond it's intricate and tiny perfection. Those quatrains 👌

This has to be my favourite Xmas poem right now. And also part of a strand of poems that weave the reality of war into the everyday miracle of Christmas life and family love. Actually it's that brutality alongside the sting of the cold, that really brings the warmth of it home

The clapboard village aglow
that starry stark December
I barely now remember,
or the brutish ache of snow

burning my face like quicklime.
Yet one thing was still missing.
I saw my parents kissing,
perhaps for the last time.

Through blue frozen lots
my giant parents strolled,
wrapped tight against the cold
like woolen Argonauts,

searching for that tall
perfection of Scotch pine
from the hundreds laid in line
like the dead at Guadalcanal.

On that stony New England tableau,
the halo of falling snow
glared like a waxy crown.

In every town, we want to honour the stories and voices that are already there, in a way that will hopefully galvanise us as we face increasing challenges in the wider world, it would be great if you could be part of that.

I’ve worked for years bringing poetry as a force to celebrate what we have right here right now in our lives in a positive way and this show is a new, focussed and exciting way to elevate that process.

I put this show together with Erin because I've been feeling more and more that in our outward looking, acquisitive culture and challenging context these days, what’s beautiful right in front of us can often get overlooked, even dismissed.
