Applying #EDI in STEM is challenging because scientists are trained in deductive reasoning, while inclusivity requires a reflective, flexible approach. Tiffany Yu's "Anti-Ableist Manifesto" delves into key insights using concise language and amplifies the voices of current advocates. #allyship

Agreed! Accessibility isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. It's a continuous learning process. We can move forward by having more conversations and bringing people with lived experience to the decision-making process.

Drafting a budget for accessibility in #VisionResearch seminars and events, I received honest feedback:
"How are ASL interpreters useful for the visually impaired? Is captioning for enlarging text?"
It hit me that, in STEM—a largely able-bodied field—I needed to explain more.

A journal cover photo for Journal of Cell Science, Volume 137 (21) Novermber 2024. It is depicting a healthy frog retina labelled using wheat germ agglutinin (magenta), which binds to the photoreceptor outer segments; anti-calbindin antibody (green), which marks cone inner segments and a subset of bipolar cells; and Hoechst 33342 (blue), which stains cell nuclei. It has the Company of Biologists logo on the bottom left.
I think I can announce it (it's on the website now), but I'm really excited to say that I got the journal cover for the November issue of JCS! The retina is so beautiful, and I'm so happy I get to share that.

Today I taught a class about the impact of blindness stereotypes & why it's important for future #blind & #LowVision rehabilitation professionals to understand the importance & role of the blindness advocacy movement. Passionate about #braille & #a11y? The #vrt program option may be for you!
