Visits to Green Watch Bickenhill, Wednesbury and Sutton Coldfield Technical Rescue Stations. Excellent discussions about the Service with some really insightful input. TRU crews are specialists who deal with some most complex incidents across the West Midlands.
And they also make a mean BLT.
Great visit to see our superb ISAR (United Kingdom International Search & Rescue Team) colleagues undertaking their monthly training today.

One of the pleasing things I saw in a visit to Dudley fire station this week was how immaculate the fire appliances were. Every locker & pump bay were spotless. Taking pride and care of our life-saving equipment is huge part of #professionalism. Well done all #WeAreWMFS @westmidsfire.bsky.social

Friday night last week was an evening visit to Smethwick White Watch where I joined the crew for dinner. Discussion ranged from IT systems to our school education resources. Great to catch up with former LFB colleague. #WeAreWMFS @westmidsfire.bsky.social

Purple Watch were a great bunch. Discussion ranged from the future of the service to mental health, with some really candid reflections from newer members of staff who felt that our provision, both formal informal, is ahead of teaching and the police.

Two station visits this week. First up: Tettenhall fire station in the Black Country. Tettenhall are unique for our service as currently the only PRL that works the ‘late’ shift: a model that matches provision to peak demand and risk.

It's hard to believe it was 20 years ago tomorrow that I was on duty and responded to Edgware Road for the 7/7 bombings. So much has happened since then, but that day is still indelibly imprinted on my mind. This was a news story from the 10-year remembrance:

Also based at TRU in Bickenhill is Luna 🐕 our wonderful USAR dog who can search for casualties in collapsed structures. Luna is looked after by Kate who is good natured in being rather resigned to the fact that Luna gets most of the fuss! 😁 #WeAreWMFS. @westmidsfire.bsky.social

Yesterday I got the chance to visit our Technical Rescue Crews at Bickenhill Fire Station. During the visit, I took part in climbing the training pylon which is part of the job-related selection test for joining the TRU. #WeAreWMFS

Today I also got to take part in a large scale exercise with crews at Sandwell General Hospital. The scenario consisted of a gas explosion in the basement of the hospital. Crews from across the Black Country tested out the new @MSAsafety breathing apparatus set & guidelines @westmidsfire.bsky.social

Earlier this week I visited our Safeside centre. What an amazing facility! Community safety education for young people at its most interactive best. But the centre wouldn’t run without the amazing dedication of the staff & volunteers who are real stars. #WeareWMFS @westmidsfire.bsky.social
