And honestly I'd love to interview Ernest about some of the decisions made in these books. Some of this is just nostalgia porn for people my age, but some of the story elements that make these books so good is nested in standing up for the least of us and valuing human life at every social strata.

In my current re-reading of "Ready Player One" & Two, I'm getting hit sideways with a lot of FEELS from wildly flawed protagonists doing the right thing to fight a fascist mega corporation. A drunk behind the wheel is out of control. This feels predatory and malicious. What we are experiencing was planned in detail. This was the real plan all along and they're doing it on purpose. An alcoholic makes bad choices but they're inhibited by the alcohol. We're experiencing pure evil.

Good books coming out is not something to apologize for. Americans need good distractions from the dismantling of our democracy. We can only watch so much of that shit before we need something else worthwhile in our lives.
