Update: The Cape Hatteras National Seashore reports that a fifth house has collapsed in Buxton on Tuesday, Oct. 28. It was located at 46213 Tower Circle Road, and it fell at approximately 4:30 p.m.

NC 12 closed on parts of Hatteras and Ocracoke
NCDOT has announced that due to dangerous conditions caused by ocean overwash, NC12 is currently closed on Pea Island between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe. It is now also closed on Ocracoke Island between the NPS Pony Pens and the Ferry Terminal.

In Buxton on Monday, Oct. 20 NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey delivered a sobering message about the state’s role in insuring vulnerable oceanfront homes there.
Having resumed its debris cleanup on Hatteras, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS) reports that on Monday, Oct. 20, two dozen CHNS staff filled 52 pickup trucks with debris associated with recent house collapses in Buxton.
