As winter sports wrap up and enter the playoffs, we thought we'd take a musical interlude with our winter DVUSD student-athletes.

An intra-district battle at the 4A boys varsity soccer play-in at Goldwater, as the Deer Valley Skyhwaks stunned the Bulldogs, rallying from an early 3-0 deficit for a 5-3 win.

The Bulldogs' season comes to a close with a 10-2 record, while the Skyhwaks advance to the playoffs Wednesday night.

Ronito will now represent the district and region in the state spelling bee competition in March.

Congratulations Ronito, and thank you to all of the regional contestants in today's spelling bee, hosted at the district office.

There was no "mondegreen" for Hillcrest Middle student Ronito Romel at the regional spelling bee (if there was, someone would have to be singing).

A mondegreen is a misunderstood or misinterpreted word or phrase resulting from a mishearing of the lyrics of a song, and it is also the winning word!

This past weekend, DVUSD's transportation department had six bus drivers compete in the annual AAPT School Bus Safety Road-eo, which puts drivers to the test in 13 competitions. Three of the drivers placed in the top 10 overall, including the #1 spot!

Today is school crossing guard appreciation day, and DVUSD thanks all of our crossing guards for getting our students to and from school in all sorts of weather all school days!

A tense battle between Deer Valley High School and Peoria tonight saw the Skyhawks dominate the Panthers in a 72-37 win to improve to 15-1 on the season, and 14-0 in 4A play.

Girls doubleheader at Barry Goldwater High School tonight, as varsity basketball battled Paradise Honor, and varsity soccer shutout Moon Valley 2-0.
