As a German I would welcome a general Autobahn speed limit of around 120 to 130 km/h (75/80 mph), not only for safety reasons but also to improve traffic flow. Replacing the current no speed limit at all rule would be a pragmatic first step.

In practice these systems can create uncomfortable and even dangerous situations when a car misreads a traffic sign and suddenly slows from 130 km/h or (~80 mph) to 30 km/h (19 mph). Abrupt deceleration in flowing traffic can increase risk instead of reducing it.
