Raise the flags of the motherland!… From the fire escape came the measured, orderly, staccato beat of footsteps. Boots. Heavy, sturdy boots—the kind the Motherland issued to soldiers and police. These days, no one could mistake that sound. Its orderliness and inevitability were meant to strike fear in wrongdoers and pride in law-abiding citizens. I remembered it from childhood—Victory Day parades, ranks of mirror-bright boots coming down hard on warm asphalt—Wham! Wham!—echo snapping off the walls, mingling with balloons and the triumphant blare of trumpets beneath streaming flags… And now I—who’d never done anything worse than paint on a wall—felt my heart pounding in my throat to that same rhythm, threatening to leap out. "They won’t have me," flashed through my mind—a desperate, defiant thought, as if I were about to fight them. The brave guardians of order, packed into black armored suits, their faces hidden behind impenetrable helmets. Those helmets made each of them look like faceless terracotta warriors, buried with their emperor in some distant antiquity. And the sound of their steps was just as heavy, inevitable, as if each of them were made of stone…

I've been reading a lot of romance novels lately for research (mostly rereading Emily Henry because her books are perfectly formulaic). I enjoy her prose style a lot and the banter between her characters, even if her books do feel a bit too same-y. But they're fun and I would still recommend!

I…am feeling a little attacked. I don’t do moodboards, making playlists would just distract me from writing, I’m a total packrat and never scrap anything completely, and I have too many words in my head for the other two. The rest….😳🤣😳🤣😳🤣

Well, this was a fun one! I don't really make moodboards or playlists for any particular reason, and I never really feel guilt for not writing because I don't take it *too* seriously. 🤔 Definitely had projects I started to hate though, and considered quitting more than one. #writingcommunity

Yay for no jury duty! Congratulations on completing FFYW Gerrie. It has been amazing to see your updates every day! 🤩

Day 30. Final day of the #FFYW challenge. First, I wasn't chosen for jury duty. YAY! (Same court where R Kelly was on trial. 😬) I still have several chapters to go on the WIP. Today, I made sure I had all of my 6 key #horror novel scenes as per an article by @savannahgilbo.bsky.social
