The point of having a standards editor is that you bring in a skilled, disinterested person to read or watch a story and point out possible bias, errors and lapses.
The actual story editors can miss those things because they're so closely tied to the production and reporting of the piece.

When Lightfoot released the song in 76, I liked it so much I bought a 45 of it. $1 at King's Department Store.
Billy Strings builds a great improv jam with his band for the first 4 minutes before the well-known tune begins. It's a darn good cover.

Itβs insane to treat the filibuster as the most sacrosanct.
Article 1 power of the purse, oversight, and war? Nah.
Emoluments clauses? Bribery prohibition? Meh.
Criminal law? 14A? Doesnβt count.
But maybe the Senate changes a rule it has multiple times before? Gasp! Not that. Anything but that.

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers whoβll be deprived of health care.

Just watched Bernie Sanders on Maddow and in response to whether Schumer should step down from leadership, his answer was "Look Schumer is part of the Dem Establishment and if he steps down who will replace him?"
I mean... Bernie, WTF???? Take a damn stand.

Whitehouse means well, but this sort of thing just has to stop. Someone's feelings *are* wrong--saying that everybody is right or everybody has a point is just a polite way of condescending. Unity takes real agreement--and willingness to say "We screwed up". The Dem leadership screwed up.

In a world where the incumbent president bowed to pressure and stepped aside, it doesnβt seem like such a monumental ask to switch minority leaders.

Schumer could not have done more to lend credence to the progressive criticism of the Democratic establishment. There was no political pressure from the constituency to end the shutdown. You ended it for the donors. Stupifying politics. Kaine wants to break? Crush him.
