MM is almost twice as common in NHBs although we find that only an additional 2-4% of MM cases in NHB are due to excess BMI compared to NHWs.

While the etiology of MM is multifactorial, we estimate the proportion of myeloma cases attributable to elevated BMI or DM overall and by race. About 11-17% of MM cases may be attributable to excess BMI and 1.2% cases to DM.
