Jake Sanderson gets dinged by Brandon Montour in the second period and leaves the game. He won’t return for tonight’s game against Seattle.
His loss, for any amount of time, would be a massive blow for the Senators’ playoff chances. Only player better than him this season is Tim Stützle.
Warren Foegele takes to the ice with his Senators teammates for the first time.

The Senators bought at the deadline. They sold off David Perron. It might have been enough for this year’s playoff push. But could they have done more as a hybrid seller/buyer?
My latest for @theathletic.com

David Perron has been traded to the Detroit Red Wings. A conditional pick will be given in exchange, with some conditions:

He kills penalties and provides offence. Travis Green is going to be excited about having him in his lineup (and he’s a UFA in 2027).
Sens get a player who can help them next year if this year doesn’t work out.
Here's some insight on the Warren Foegele trade from myself, @iceman-cometh.bsky.social and Big Money CJ, aka Chris Johnston.

I listed MacKenzie Weegar as one of five trade targets for the #Sens if they were interested in obtaining a right-shot defenceman.
With reports of him considering a move to Utah, that's one less body for Ottawa to make a move on between now and Friday.

In the video, Brady’s answer is overdubbed to make him appear to refer to Canadians as “maple syrup-eating f—s”.
It has been viewed over 11 million times.

The NHL has cleared Sens forward Arthur Kaliyev to return to play following financial/gambling allegations.
“The League has conducted a thorough review of this matter and found no basis to conclude there was a violation of League policy or grounds for discipline,”

Whether he's played one minute or five, Senators' Nik Matinpalo is on the verge of earning a bronze medal. Great to see.

Laila Edwards made history as the first Black woman to represent the USA at the Olympics. She assists on the tying goal from Hilary Knight to send this game to overtime.
Now, she’s the first Black woman to win an Olympic Gold medal with Team USA’s women’s hockey team.

I wrote about Georges Laraque and the night he scored a hat-trick for the Oilers in my book #BlackAces.
