Each of us wishing for a different kind of miracle. I checked out of habit to see if they had a Bible in the drawer. This is not who we are she said. What was it exactly that they were supposed to be looting here? Were they stuffing their pockets with fistfuls of ash? There was nothing that we had left behind that anyone could take from us in any way that mattered anymore. It all belonged to the fire now. Probably always did.
