Whether you are a citizen or not, this should force you into action if you haven’t acted already. There is a limited window of time left before doing something ab authoritarian rule is more than likely to get you arrested, disappeared or killed. In point of fact, many have already had that happen.

It’s the same way I feel ab the ppl & publication ab sticking w Google, Gmail, Facebook, etc, despite all of the proven info we have on their previous & ongoing collusions w intelligence agencies & unapologetic privacy violations. You know it’s bad. But G-d forbid you should actually do something.

One of the things I am shocked by are how many self-declared leftists & radicals—including innumerable progressive writers & editors—simply didn’t & won’t give up X. Their logic is that they have big “followings” there. I liken it to drinking w/ brown shirts bc there are more of them at the bar.

There are, of course, those w/ who seek to hurt & destroy others, whether their targets are (eg) women, GLBTQ ppl, or ppl who are deemed as “unworthy” by extremists. I don’t seek out these ppl as friends. But I do make a habit of trying to understand how they get that way.

My express desire as a journalist & human being is to get to know the incredible diversity of personalities, beliefs, practices & rituals of the ppl who populate this planet. Most ppl seem to gravitate to that which is a/ familiar & b/ “acceptable” to them. They don’t realize what they’re missing.

Now, more than ever. At the time it happened to me, perception was US journalists could not be targeted; “it wasn’t possible.” I went into hiding but still couldn’t shake them bc I didn’t yet know about #masssurveillance. Now, I stand 4 those of you who are living it. I KNOW how they silence us.

You’re really onto something here. What you should also know is that the fed govt has been doing the terror ism designation for a long time inside fed prisons, honing in on ppl who dare to speak out against abuses, jailhouse lawyers, environmental activists etc. The prisoners hv no right to appeal.

It’s so much bigger than ICE. So many intelligence agencies are involved. ICE predates the Trump regime & was abusing their power since their inception, which morphed from the INS (which also did tremendous post 9/11 damage to ppl, inc mass roundups of innocents). This evil didn’t happen overnight.

We are witnessing an unholy “marriage” of face recognition technology, surveillance, intelligence gathering, rampant xenophobia & AI in many guises. Face scans like these were previously limited to border/customs crossings & arrest or incarceration. This data won’t be erased; the uses are endless.

It’s ok to take a break from being inundated with horrifying news. If you’re an empath like me—or a deeply compassionate person—you will hit overload if you don’t. You may feel guilty at first. But you must shut out the insanity of the world around you on a regular basis 4 your own mental health.

To give another example, up until the 1970s, Seattle laws officially prevented Black & Jewish ppl from owning ANY property outside of what was then considered the ”slum” area of the Central District, where I lived. Ppl there talk a good game, but Seattle was the most racist city I ever lived in.

Lockdowns: prisoners not allowed 2 move outside cells. Some prisons barely let ppl out 4 RARE showers or exercise. They’re often confined to cells w/ up to 3 others, sleeping next 2 toilets. It has a severe, deleterious impact on body & mind. LD’s used to be confined 2 emergencies. No longer.

When you get in your car or walk to school/work, do you worry ab being attacked, arrested or killed bc of how you look? When you go to the store, are you likely to be followed by security, searched or accused of theft? Discrimination is a daily reality no matter who’s president of your country.

There was a time in US & global history when unions & radical movt’s truly stood 4 the working class & against classism. Now I can’t even remember the last time I read a post where anyone spoke out against Western classism. Capitalism has ppl thinking they gotta fake it till they make it.
