Just tuning in and it looks like he's talking about someone who will be added to Laval, not someone currently there. Protz? Paupanekis? Sawyer? Mooney? Can't be Pickford as he says someone he hadn't heard much about.

I value it. But we fans tend to put excessive value on our assets and undervalue other team's assets. So it can be difficult to be accurate when you can't be sure you're being objective.

I realize as I'm watching YouTube on TV that I also watch a lot of the popular Habs podcasts, so I guess that fills in a lot of Habs time for me.

We assume they will be late, and it's a fair assumption. But one never knows. And even if they are late, they are still first round picks, with value as picks or in a different trade. They could afford it, for sure, but not certain I'd go that high.

They seem to treat those last two minutes like an eternity though. If it was two minutes to midnight the first time they said it was, then 85 seconds is still a long ways away. I think we're closer and it has nothing to do with nuclear war. I think the planet's biggest crisis will be environmental.

Very doubtful to me too. Thomas is a great player and should be a great fit, but the value to the Habs of Hage, plus two 1st round picks is probably greater, keeping the long-term goal in mind. They might move Kapanen before Hage if it were for a 2C like Thomas.

Lots of discussion (and disagreement) on what the Habs should do this deadline, but one thing I think we can all agree on is this might be the most important moment in the rebuild, whether they deal or stand pat. They can't make mistakes between now and the start of next season.

Change his second to a 1st and that's pretty close to what you describe. Would you do that? I probably would.

I wouldn't pay that. That's at least one first rounder too many, given what the Habs potentially have coming. I think take away one of those firsts though and you have the structure of a deal.

I would probably give up Hage in a package, but that package wouldn't be the equivalent of four first round picks, or even four second round picks.

He may have been the property of Boston as early as age 16, but I don't think he was allowed in the NHL until 18.

Great piece Blain. I'm one of those guys who thinks moving Danault and replacing him with Beck now is a good idea. I'd like to see Reinbacher up come playoff time too if they don't add a right shot D by the deadline. Long-term I think this helps.

I don't think he's far from the NHL. He may play the end of this year and I'd be surprised if he wasn't on the team to start next season (although a year in Laval may be ideal regardless). But I don't think he's ready to step in and make an impact this year, or even next.

I watched the game today (recorded) after knowing the score and the expected goals stats and I just don't see it. Montreal had the greater chances, even if they had fewer shots. Dobes made some good stops too, but the score would have hit double digits had Lindgren not make some huge saves.

Unloading excess. That may result in modest upgrades. I think the possibility is there for a larger move, but it would have to be an ideal fit at the right price. Otherwise he keeps his assets for a larger move in the summer.

Hard to steal a game when you can't see the puck. Saves under those circumstances are a fluke. The Habs need to be better at cleaning the front of the net, but they don't have many D who can do that. So we need to outscore opponents.

He was good though. He made a bunch of great saves and the goals that went in were very difficult stops. But people seem to think NHL goalies are superhuman and should stop everything.

Thanks Denis! My younger brother is the real goalie in the family, but I credit a lot of his success to the drilling I did with him when he was a kid. I only played briefly when young, then went to the wing and eventually D, but am a goalie again now the past five or so years.

I think so. Those who are good at it make it seem easy. Still works in beer league. :)

I've never liked 3v3. I never liked 4v4. And they never tried 5v5 for the extra point, which I'd love to see.

Agree. Danault has had some okay moments, but he's mostly been disappointing, even defensively. Perhaps Veleno should be back in.
