4/x…So today I give thanks for my family and friends and the life we share, I do so with eyes open to the context in which we celebrate, and recognize that so much of what we have stems from white privilege and wealth that has accumulated over generations due to opportunities…

3/x…yet entirely necessary. While it is appropriate to take a day to give thanks and recognize the good things in our lives, doing so should not reinforce a lie that whitewashes our country’s origin story in an attempt to absolve my ancestors of wrongdoing….

2/x…of their languages and culture which along with the subjugation of Indigenous people has continued throughout our history (forced removal, boarding schools, forced sterilizations, shrinking reservations, environmental racism) and goes on yet today.Reparations and land back programs are necessary

Today is a day of contemplation, mourning, and yes, some gratitude as well. The national holiday that is celebrated today is based upon a myth that my ancestors invented to cover up their colonization of this land and attempted genocide of its original peoples, the attempted erasure

Thanks to St. Paul Moms Demand Action for inviting me to speak this morning. We need leaders who will push for banning weapons of war, high capacity magazines, and allowing local governments to set regulations that make sense for their communities. bit.ly/beth64a

Everyone, regardless of what they look like or where they come from, deserves refuge from war. Our Somali neighbors have come to Minnesota, built lives here, and are part of the fabric of our community and should be allowed to live here in peace. Trump is punishing them to divide and distract.

What a fun event last night!

Thank you to the organizers who put out the call for rapid response and the community that showed up to remind everyone that we must do better.

Today I attended the vigil on the site of the ICE raid in St. Paul to show my solidarity for our immigrant communities being targeted by the Trump administration. I believe in a Minnesota that welcomes the marginalized and supports all Minnesotans.

We know we must do more and do better to protect our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and families against the growing tide of fascism in our country.

This morning I met with bookstore owners who are choosing to step forward and join the movement fighting against authoritarianism and for a future in which we all can thrive, regardless of what we look like or where we come from. Thanks to Moon Palace co-owner Angela Schwesnedl for organizing it!

ICE is terrorizing communities and violently detaining people with no cause and now, yet another Minnesotan is being held in one of the 3 ICE detention facilities in MN (a county jail). This must stop. Close the ICE here. We need a complete separation between ICE and local police and sheriffs.
