It IS happening to people of color. it’s happening right now, and it's been happening, but you never listen. and you’re still not listening because again WHY do you have to imagine. whiteness is so powerful because it’s the norm. BIPOC+ are continuously othered so their suffering is background noise. it’s expected, unremarkable and not worth the same urgency. meanwhile , MMIW ( missing and murdered indigenous women) is on my mind constantly. since 2019 I’ve always thought of Elijah McClain and his last words. along with countless other bipoc+ deaths and suffering that nobody else seems to remember or want to care about. in the early years of the pandemic covid disproportionately affected bipoc+. filipino nurses were dying alone in huge numbers in the early pandemic. that’s a reality. it’s a collective and constant grief that you don't even acknowledge and you will never ever get.

But BIPOC + suffering? that’s just how things are and should be. brown and african refugees get demonised while others receive sympathy because you will only extend full humanity to people who look like you. this isn't about claiming moral or intellectual superiority, or being bitter that you're only just catching up—it's a documented pattern of who gets empathy and who doesn't. and yet people say not to be resentful. to be kinder, more understanding. ofc you have to meet people where they are at instead of where they should be. i know that. everyone knows that. but again bipoc+ are only human too. it's exhausting and it sucks to constantly be the bigger person and to swallow that justified resentment. bipoc+ suffering has always been treated as "organic," an inevitable just part of our history. yours never is.
