And I got to introduce a piece I've been working on for a journal (hopefully will be out soon) that explores the representation of the mind in post-feminist media culture. How the mind is treated as an organ and can/should be exercised, surveilled, regulated, etc., especially for girls and women.

We unpacked how mental health and diagnoses exist in an interplay between sociocultural discourses and continuously evolving medical science. We discussed celebrities, magazine articles, activism, social media, etc. It was such a rich conversation and I learned so much from my colleagues.

Yesterday, I had the most wonderful time guest lecturing in a graduate seminar called the Politics of Mental Health. We read parts of Fredrika Thelandersson's book, 21st Century Media and Female Mental Health.

Your life should be more liveable. Affordable, workable, loveable, joyful, pleasureable, fulfilling, striving. That life is what we should be aiming for. Not criminalizing, punishing, hating, war-ing, taking, ruining.

When I introduce myself to students at the beginning of the semester, I always tell them I'm an avid reader and welcome reading recommendations.
For the first time, a student approached me after class and recommended me a book. He even connected it back to my StoryGraph data that I showed them! 😁😭
