When it went into Lamentations trope is when I really lost it

I can't even describe this coherently, but the leyning and Hebrew puns made me laugh so hard I think my coworkers are concerned.

It's just embarrassing to get to 6pm and faint in shul enough that other people tell you it's time to break your fast.

Yeah yeah חי בהם but could that have waited another like 30 minutes?

My children would like to recommend this year's experimental flavor: s'mores hamentashen

Giving real thought to Tuesday havdallah

Emailed the rabbi, he was out of office but called up, said this was completely unacceptable and he would take care of it. I'm literally shaking in relief.

I'm not sure what kind of threat I would possibly pose, unless she thinks my chanting is a threat to her ears or something. I only really see her once a week in Talmud class.

Agree. Still trying to figure out what to do about it. Responding to the email is likely pointless, I can't figure what her goal is here unless it's to start shit or run me out.

This shul *has* run out a bunch of queer people in the past.

Someone at my shul decided to send me an email telling me that she is misgendering me on purpose. For political reasons. After telling me in person. In front of a rabbi. Who said nothing. (I think because they were flabbergasted.)

This claims to be, BTW, an LGBTQ+-inclusive space.

I haven't measured the temperature of the "keep warm" mode, but it's not cooking-hot, just "don't get food poisoning" warm.

It doesn't have any other mode. You push a button to cook (or timer) and once the rice is cooked it switches to "keep warm" mode and it'll keep the rice warm for days. Eventually the rice gets kinda dry on top, but it's fine.

You turn off the "keep warm" mode by taking out the pot, so... don't

Now I want rice.

Zojirushi is the gold standard in the Asian households around me. I've had the same neuro-fuzzy for nearly 20 years. We use it heavily, it keeps cooked rice good for well over a day easily and automatically.

The easy example is the rodef (e.g. someone breaking into your house at night, so we assume they're going to hurt/kill not steal). We're affirmatively supposed to defend ourselves up to and including deadly force.

There are examples I'm less comfortable with as well.

Err... Two things: 1) there are three categories of acts which picuach nefesh does not supercede (though there's some disagreement between the BT and JT about one category IIRC) and 2) at least from the Talmud it's not exactly universally clear that "all" is the category of people covered.

Hindu calendar - Wikipedia

A bunch of other east Asian communities celebrate Lunar New Year, which I presume is why the name was changed.

Side note that the Hindu lunisolar calendar has a neat Zodiac-based correction mechanism: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_c...

Does anyone know of a daily egal minyan in NYC? Preferably somewhere reasonable to stay for doing tourist things. Thinking about taking a vacation with my family for the first time in many years and need to say kaddish.

(Even better if it's near the Modern Bread and Bagel I love that place.)

Sharia imposed on non-Muslims in a secular country does seem suboptimal -- same goes for imposing halachah on non-Jews.

Yes, but the emphasis is different: ir bi-RAH vs ir BI-rah. Makes sense given that iirc one is a loan word
